FPGA Co-op Student Opportunity - Fall 2026
At Avalon Holographics, we’re building the world’s most advanced holographic display systems, enabling real-time 3D visualization used in industries such as defense, healthcare, and entertainment, without the use of headsets or glasses!
Building hardware systems capable of supporting technology this advanced requires careful design, deep technical thinking, and the ability to solve complex engineering challenges, and our students play an important role in helping bring these systems to life.
At Avalon, students are a vital part of our team and an important part of our long-term talent pipeline. We’re proud to provide meaningful opportunities that support both your learning and your career growth.
As an FPGA Co-op Student, you’ll help design, test, and optimize the microarchitecture that supports our real-time 3D visualization systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience working with high-speed data processing systems and supporting the development of advanced hardware platforms.
What You’ll Do:
You’ll work closely with FPGA and Engineering teams to support development, testing, and validation of high-performance hardware systems.
Design, test, and debug high-speed data processing systems on FPGAs
Support architecture development and contribute to detailed design specifications
Assist in simulation, testing, and validation of FPGA-based systems
Collaborate with Engineering teams to support system integration and functional validation
Debug and troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues
Document designs, workflows, and technical findings
Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency of hardware systems
Contribute to special projects that support development of advanced visualization hardware
What We’re Looking For:
Currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related co-op post-secondary program. Preference will be given to students in their 4th, 5th or 6th work term.
Familiarity with VHDL, Verilog, or other hardware description languages (HDL).
Strong interest in digital design and hardware development.
Naturally curious and motivated to research, explore, and figure things out independently.
Comfortable taking ownership of projects and running with ideas from concept through execution.
Confident working with direction but without requiring constant step-by-step instruction.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to document technical workflows and communicate findings clearly.
Comfortable working across teams including Hardware, Firmware, and Systems Engineering.
Collaborative mindset with a willingness to take initiative.
Why Join Avalon?
Get meaningful experience supporting groundbreaking technology that pushes beyond what’s been done before, with mentorship, collaboration, and opportunities to take ownership of your work.
If you're ready to work at the heart of high-performance hardware and help build systems that power real-time 3D technology, apply today with your resume and transcripts! Please note that your application won’t be considered complete without both documents.
